Zakynthos Villas : Beaches in Zakynthos
There are plenty of superb sandy beaches all over the island of Zakynthos ranging from large busy beaches with watersports to small secluded coves.
Below is a guide to some of the beaches that can be found around the coast of Zante.
Alykes is probably the best beach on the north coast of the island and is a long stretch of golden sand that shelves into the warm waters making it ideal for families with young children.
Along the beachfront there are numerous beach bars and tavernas close at hand for refreshments.
The beach has sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, extensive watersports and boat trips to the shipwreck and blue caves.
Alykanas beach is a continuation of the Alykes bay and it is possible to walk along the coast between the two.
The beach is easy to drive to with plenty of parking close by, a couple of beachside smack bars are available for refreshments and there is a wide range of watersports.

Argassi beach is located in the south - east of the island and is a narrow band of sand and shingle stretching for over 1km with many coves and rock pools ideal for the explorer.
Watersports are available for all the family to enjoy. An interesting sight is the old Venetian bridge located in the sea about 20m from the coast where the land used to be joined.
Tsilivi beach is a large wide sandy beach with fine golden sand that gently shelves into the sea.
It is an ideal family beach as the sand gently shelves into the water making it safe for young children and swimmers of any level.
The beach has been awarded the prestigious international Blue Flag award for its exceptional cleanliness and clean clear waters. Sun loungers and parasols are available for hire for those looking to relax in the sun, also watersports are available and there are beach side bars offering refreshments.
The beach is easily accessible from anywhere on the island, as it is well signposted and parking is plentiful.

Bouka beach is located close to Tsilivi beach and offers a smaller and quieter alternative to anyone staying in Tsilivi as it is secluded.
The small clean sandy beach has shallow waters and is ideal for children.
There is a snack bar nearby and parking is available.

Gerakas is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches on Zakynthos and is located on the south coast.
It has a long sandy beach and is a nesting place for the endangered loggerhead turtles. Like many of the beaches on this coast it is protected by the National Marine Park.

Kalamaki beach is a continuation of the better known Lagana beach and is characterised by being a long, wide stretch of soft sand.
Along with other beaches in the area this is a popular beach for the Caretta Caretta turtles to lay their eggs. The beachfront restaurants are open until fairly late and are lovely places to enjoy watching the magnificent sunset as it sets over the Ionian Sea.

Laganas is the most famous resort on Zakynthos Island and the beach is a long stretch of golden sand covering around 9km in length. It is believed to be one of the longest beaches in Greece.
A vast selection of beach bars, tavernas and refreshments are available here and the resort is just a short walk away. The beach is easily accessible with plenty of parking available and is a great beach for couples and youngsters, not for those seeking peace and tranquillity.

Navagio beach, also known as Shipwreck and Smugglers cove, is the most famous sight on Zakynthos and somewhere that must be seen when visiting the island. It is probably the most famous beach in Greece having been photographed and featured in many holiday brochures, travel books and televised advertisements.
The beach is only accessible by boat, as it is surrounded by cliffs and driving or walking to the beach is not possible. It can be viewed from land by visiting the platform near the village of Anafonitria which is well signposted. It is possible to take a boat trip from almost anywhere on the island to visit the cove and you certainly won’t be disappointed by its white fine sand and crystal clear turquoise water for a refreshing swim.

Porto Koukla is a superb sandy beach located on the south coast between the resorts of Laganas and Keri. This unspoilt beach has sun loungers and umbrellas and is perfect for anyone seeking a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere.
A handful of beach bars and tavernas line the beach and most specialise in traditional Greek cuisine. This beach is a lovely spot from which to watch the magnificent sunset, for a special romantic evening.
Porto Roma beach is a quiet picturesque little beach with fairly shallow water ideal for swimming located on the peninsular of Vassilikos.
Sunbeds and umbrellas are available here and there is also a very good taverna specialising in Zakynthian cuisine and fish dishes. Anyone arriving at this beach by boat will be able to moor their boat in the small harbour.

Xigia beach is located on the north coast and is renowned as a natural healing spa due to its high sulphur content giving it a distinctive aroma.
Many people with skin conditions, arthritis and other aches and pains travel to this area to bathe in the soothing. The picturesque beach is easily accessible by car and there are a few tavernas in the area although no facilities on the beach.

The sandy beach of Keri is also known as Keri Lake after a lake that used to be there, but has long since dried up. Keri Lake is a small beach lined by bars, cafes and tavernas – all offering good quality refreshments.
There is a diving school at Keri Lake which is popular with many visitors; also snorkelling in this area is fantastic. Boats are available to rent from here and popular places to visit by boat are the nearby Blue Caves as well as the island of Marathonisi (also known as Turtle Island) which has lovely beaches as well as providing the chance of catching a glimpse of the magnificent Caretta Caretta turtles.

Makris Gialos is a beautiful sandy beach in the north of the island with crystal clear waters and is set in impressive scenery. Small caves can be reached from this beach, ideal for the adventurous to seek out and discover.
A diving school is located nearby as are several tavernas serving traditional Greek food. The water here is deep, so this is not the best beach for families with young children but is ideal for couples wishing to escape crowds and to have a little peace and privacy.

Porto Roxa is located close to Limnionas and the village of Agios Leon and is a small bay with crystal clear waters making it a lovely place to swim. Steps lead down to the bay, where mooring is also available for small boats, but it is also possible to dive from a spring board into the azure water.
The bay is a fantastic place to visit and is completely uncommercialised and unspoilt.

Limnionas is more of a lagoon than a beach and is an unspoilt and unknown part of Zante; it really is beautiful. Located near the village of Agios Leon, the bay here is stunning, although there is no sand, so it is not ideal for sunbathing but there are many rocks which provide adequate seating and lounging space.
The water here is exceptionally clean and a beautiful blue, great for anyone who wants to dive into the refreshing water of the Ionian Sea and also perfect for snorkelling.
